Yashasvi Jaiswal, the dynamic India opener and Rajasthan Royals star, is set to switch states from Mumbai to Goa for the 2025-26 domestic season. The move comes after the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) approached Jaiswal, who has been a key figure in Mumbai’s cricket setup since his Under-19 days.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) reportedly found Jaiswal’s decision surprising when he wrote to them regarding the transfer. However, they promptly issued a no-objection certificate (NOC), clearing the way for his move.
GCA Secretary Shambu Desai confirmed the development, stating, "We are developing a good squad for Goa and want to get the best talent available, and hence we approached him (Jaiswal) recently."
Jaiswal, 23, made his first-class debut for Mumbai in 2019 and has since played ten matches, scoring 863 runs at an impressive average of 53.93, including four centuries and two fifties. His highest score of 181 came against Uttar Pradesh in 2022.
In the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy season, Jaiswal hit hundreds in three consecutive innings, leading Mumbai to the final, where they finished as runners-up to Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, he has amassed 1,296 runs across 25 List A games at an average of 58.90 and 648 runs in 28 T20s at a strike rate of 136.42.
Jaiswal made his India debut in July 2023 against the West Indies, where he dazzled with a 171 in his maiden innings. He followed it up with a double century (209) against England in 2024. While he remains a regular in India’s Test and T20I squads, he has only played one ODI so far.
Currently, Jaiswal is part of Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, though he’s had a tough start to the season with scores of 1, 29, and 4 in his first three innings. RR will next face Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on April 5.
Jaiswal’s move to Goa follows the footsteps of cricketers like Siddesh Lad and Arjun Tendulkar, who also made similar switches during their careers. Goa recently topped the Ranji Trophy Plate League in the 2024-25 season, winning all five matches and defeating Nagaland in the final.
With Jaiswal’s addition, Goa aims to strengthen their squad as they continue their rise in Indian domestic cricket.
