The remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 will be played without the Decision Review System (DRS), after the Hawk-Eye team responsible for the technology failed to return to Pakistan following the tournament’s resumption.
The PSL was suspended on May 7 due to escalating border tensions between Pakistan and India. When the league resumed recently, Hawk-Eye’s technical crew, which had supported DRS since its introduction in the PSL in 2017, did not travel back to the country. As a result, all matches since the resumption have proceeded without DRS.
Despite the absence of the technology, the first five games post-resumption have been completed without any major controversy. However, both the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and PSL management have yet to issue an official statement on the matter. ESPNcricinfo has reportedly reached out for comment.
The unpredictable scheduling caused by regional tensions has created significant logistical issues for the tournament organizers. Production crews were required to extend their stay by an additional week, and a match originally scheduled in Multan was shifted to Lahore to minimize travel and logistical burdens. Equipment mobility was also cited as a key concern.
Meanwhile, the upcoming international series between Pakistan and Bangladesh, originally set to begin on May 25—the same day as the PSL final—has been postponed by three days. The series has also been reduced from five matches to three to accommodate the revised PSL schedule.
On the field, Quetta Gladiators have secured a place in the final for the first time since 2019 after defeating defending champions Islamabad United by 30 runs in Qualifier 1 on Wednesday. United will now face the winner of Thursday’s Eliminator between Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars for a chance to reach the final.
The final will be played on May 25 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
